A statement from
the artist:
Hello, my name is Abraham Jackson. I am a native from New Orleans, Louisiana; the land of Mardi Gras, gumbo and hurricanes. I moved here to Omaha with my wife and son in 1990 to become a part of Fr. Flanagan’s dream to help care for and learn from those in need.
I have always enjoyed painting and photography.
The exhibit that I am presenting to you is entitled, ‘Transitions’. The title reflects a change in style that I am experiencing as I discover new materials and techniques for creating meaningful images. It is also an opportunity for me to consider the transitions
that we all experience as a part of our history and as part of our daily lives.
The selection includes 12 to 16 works that were created with computer graphic programs, acrylic paints, ink, pencils and other media. Ground surfaces include various types of paper, wood, hard boards and plastics. Most of the works were created this year and
shared on the internet with other photographers and artists at
http://photoblog.com/maharba.
Use of the internet and a blog format is a big part of my transition to create a more inclusive work environment. Comments from viewers are a part of the creative process and I have learned to value the somewhat anonymous critiques that are offered from
many parts of the world.
This is also an opportunity for me to celebrate the transition that my son and others will make when they complete their college requirements and graduate to new challenges. Along the route of the exhibit, I offer some simple suggestions and personal observations that may help their transition.
Thank you for this opportunity to share my thoughts and I hope that you enjoy the time.
Merci,
